GRAN PREMIO NUVOLARI, 28th EDITION: A SUCCESS IN HONOUR OF THE GREAT TAZIO

18th September 2018 - The 28th edition of the Gran Premio Nuvolari, the historical regularity competition in honour of the great Tazio Nuvolari that starts and arrives in Mantua, hometown of the great Nivola, ended on Sunday with a great success of public and enthusiasts. In the beautiful frame of Piazza Sordello, the crew composed by Giovanni Moceri and Daniele Bonetti triumphed, driving an extraordinary 1939 Fiat 508 C, subscribed by the Loro Piana Classic Team; the couple has always led the competition, demonstrating great ability and lucidity in all the special tests.

In second place, Andrea Vesco and Andrea Guerini from the Eberhard Team, driving a 1929 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 SS Zagato from 1929. The couple from Brescia, winner of 7 editions of the GP Nuvolari, signed a formidable comeback in the last tests, but unfortunately, it was not enough to win.

Great performance also for the third classified crew, Francesco and Giuseppe Di Pietra , father and son driving a 1938 Fiat 508 C, who fought with the winners of the race for almost the entire track.

Along the 1.070 kilometers, the cars crossed cities of extraordinary beauty such as Siena, Arezzo, Città di Castello, Urbino and Ferrara, as well as Mantua that hosted the start and the arrival of the event.

The Gran Premio Nuvolari is an opportunity that allows the riders "of today" to test themselves on the cars "of yesterday", that wrote the history of the automotive sector, thus paying homage to the greatest driver of all time.

But it is also a unique adventure - judged by both enthusiasts and competitors as the most technical race in the world - that is deeply felt until the last second, made of enjoyment, sportsmanship, and a good dose of preparation and resistance to unexpected outcomes.

An edition, this year, enriched by the Coppa Nuvolari - Maserati Tribute, the appendix of the Gran Premio Nuvolari in which 10 Maserati built between 1973 and 2018 showed up. The winner crew was the n. 401, Foroni - Mozzarelli, with a 1996 Ghibli Cup; in second place, the crew n. 402, Costa - Zaninelli with a 2009 GT4700; in third place, the couple Noletta – Giorgi, n.406, with a 2018 Levante Gran Sport SQ4.

Maserati, international ambassador of Italian excellence, exhibited the most complete selection of models of its history. The “House of the Trident”, as Main Partner of the Gran Premio Nuvolari, also paid homage to the Flying Mantuan, exhibiting in Piazza Sordello for the three days of the competition the car no. 1, the legendary 6C - 34, designed by Ernesto Maserati. That car belonged to the Umberto Panini collection in Modena, and with that, the great Tazio won in 1934 on the Circuit of Modena and on the Circuit of Naples (“Principessa di Piemonte Cup”).

The 28th edition of the race confirms the great success of the Gran Premio Nuvolari, organized by Mantova Corse in partnership with ACI Mantova and Museo Tazio Nuvolari and supported by Automobile Club Italia and ACI Storico.

Fundamental, as for each edition, the contribution of prestigious international sponsors: Maserati, this year the main partner of the race, which has decided link its brand with the image of the greatest driver of all times. A certainty for punctuality and presence, the Swiss house Eberhard & Co., always the Official Timekeeper of the event, which has rewarded the winners with two pieces of its collections, two chronographs Tazio Nuvolari Data. Also precious is the contribution of Banca Generali, a leading savings company, Red Bull, which brings to life the myth of the great Tazio, perhaps the pioneer of modern action sports, and Lavorwash, a new-entry supporting brand, leader in the field of cleaning machinery.

The event in honour of Nuvolari is the second for importance within the frame of “EpocaChampionship”, the Italian “Grandi Eventi” Campionship of ACI Sport, that includes the “Coppa d’Oro delle Dolomiti” (19th-22nd July 2018), the Targa Florio (04th-07th October 2018) and the “Coppa delle Alpi by 1000 Miglia” (04th - 09th December 2018).
