Eighth success for the Brescia-based champion, racing with his father

The 30th edition of the Gran Premio Nuvolari - which started Friday morning from Mantua - ends today, marking the victory of Andrea and Roberto Vesco - Team “Villa Trasqua” n.19, driving a 1929 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 SS Zagato. The crew – composed by Brescia-based father and son - dominated the race from the first trials, showing great skill and technical ability. It is the eighth triumph for Andrea Vesco, exactly ten years after his first success at the Gran Premio Nuvolari.

“The Gran Premio is always a good idea and Scuderia Mantova Corse, forever impeccable, has shown great tenacity and determination in organizing the race. For me it is the eighth success and this year everything has been perfect, despite the criticalities of the period we are experiencing - says Andrea Vesco. “The course was very demanding and our car gave its best. The most excellent drivers take part to Gran Premio Nuvolari and therefore it is essential to start strong right away; we have held the lead from the very first trials and this has helped us to load up more and more”.

"It's an incredible emotion: racing with my son and winning! I have been participating in the Nuvolari for thirty years and been aiming for victory for a long time. The races for us are a family tradition, a passion that has been conveyed from father to son, as I did with Andrea"- underlines Roberto Vesco.

At the second place in the rank, crew number 21 Andrea Belometti and Massimo Bettinsoli - Brescia Corse, the authors of a great final comeback, driving a 1929 Lancia Lambda,.

Third place for Mario Passanante and Raffaella De Alessandrini - Scuderia Franciacorta Motori, crew number 48, on a 1937 Fiat 508 C. Passanante and De Alessandrini - winners of 2019 edition - have been always in the top positions during the three days of competition. 

In fourth place the crew number 55 composed by Guido Barcella and Ombretta Ghidotti - Amams Tazio Nuvolari, on a 1938 Fiat 508 C; fifth place for crew number 26 Alessandro Gamberini and Guido Ceccardi - Classic Team on a Fiat 514 Mille Miglia dated 1930.

The ranking of the Italian teams sees the Classic Team in first place, instead for foreign teams the German Caracciola.

The 30th edition celebrated an important collective goal, for the Organizers, for the city of Mantua and for all supporters. The Gran Premio represents ​​a unique opportunity to admire closely some legendary vintage cars that have made the history of world motor racing and which will meet again this year in Piazza Sordello for one of the most fascinating races in the world. The myth of the great Nivola is always strong and present and with the Gran Premio it relives every year, thanks to the many fans who share the emotions of an extraordinary journey aboard real masterpieces of mechanics and design.

Despite the peculiarity of this edition, 150 crews arrived in Mantua, coming from the main European countries: Austria, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Luxembourg, Holland, Republic of San Marino, Spain and Switzerland, thanks to the desire to try their hand at one of the most beautiful races in the world, along the streets of the "Bel Paese", enjoying the beauty of the wonderful Italian territory and the warmth that only the truest motoring enthusiasts can give.
28 car manufacturers at the start: from the Italian Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Lancia, Maserati, Ferrari and OM to the British Triumph, Aston Martin, Jaguar and Bentley; from the German Mercedes, BMW and Porsche to the French pursang signed by Ettore Bugatti. There are 50 pre-war cars that took part in the event.

The great news of this year was the project "GP Nuvolari Green" thanks to which Mantova Corse adopted a conscious approach in the field of environmental protection and sustainability, concretely engaging in the planting of tall trees in selected areas of the city of Mantua, in order to offset and zero the total CO2 emissions produced by the circulation of the participating historic cars.
Organized by Mantova Corse, with the habitual experience and professionalism, the regularity event is reserved for cars of historical interest built up to 1976, according to the F.I.A., F.I.V.A. and ACI Sport regulations.
According to tradition, prestigious sponsors support the Gran Premio Nuvolari: Red Bull, "Special Partner", the energy drink par excellence; TAG Heuer, "Official Timekeeper Partner", excellence in the Swiss watch industry since 1860; Gruppo Finservice, “Technical Partner” and leader in subsidized finance; Auto Center Jaguar, “Automotive Partner”.

The details of the 30th edition:

Participation: 150 crews at the start coming from the main European countries.

Period of admission of the cars: from the beginning up to 1976.

Route: this 30th edition proposes a route of 1,095 km that will cross 5 regions and 12 provinces, along the Mantua-Rimini-Siena-Rimini-Mantua route, the one that over the years has met the greatest appreciation of participants.

Special crews:
Tazio's legendary car: Nuvolari symbolically took part in the event with the number 1 aboard the 1930 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Gran Sport, the glorious car with which the Mantovano Volante won the Mille Miglia ninety years ago.

Among the crews at the start also Austrian Dieter Quester former Formula 1 driver of the 70s and Red Bull testimonial who will be at the wheel of a 1937 BMW Roadster.

Wearing the colors of TAG Heuer, Carlo Vanzini, Formula 1 commentator for Sky, aboard a 1973 Fiat 124 Spider Abarth.

For the Gruppo Finservice, CEO Guido Rovesta on a Mercedes 190 SL of 1956 and Orazio Rigo on a Mercedes Pagoda SL 250 of 1967.

The event in honor of Nuvolari is the second round of "EpocaChampionship", the Italian Grand Events Championship of Aci Sport, which also includes the Coppa d'Oro delle Dolomiti (23th-26th July 2020), the Targa Florio (15th -18th October 2020) and the Coppa delle Alpi by 1000 Miglia (21st-24th January 2021).
