Strong anticipation for the International Classic Car Event

Milan, September 3rd 2026 The Gran Premio Nuvolari is ready to get underway. Now in its 36th edition, this international regularity event for historic cars, taking place from 17th to 20th September, pays tribute each year to the great Mantuan racing driver Tazio Nuvolari, who wrote a remarkable chapter in the history of world motorsport.

Four days of pure passion for historic motoring will bring the cities along the Gran Premio route to life, in a captivating celebration of excitement, style and tradition. At the wheel of genuine automotive treasures from a bygone era, the gentleman drivers will journey through the most evocative landscapes and along the most iconic roads of Northern and Central Italy, transforming every stage into an irresistible journey through time, where heritage, beauty and elegance come together.

“Lombardy is Italy’s leading region for motorsport events, and the Gran Premio Nuvolari is one of its most prestigious symbols,” says Federica Picchi, Undersecretary for Sport and Youth of the Lombardy Regional Government. “The Gran Premio is not merely a sporting event, but also a cultural occasion and a platform for collaboration between public and private companies, capable of enhancing local areas, communities and industrial heritage. Through its funding programmes, the Lombardy Regional Government firmly supports events such as this, where historic cars bring to life a veritable travelling museum.”

300 crews from around the world will gather in Mantova for an edition set to be packed with exciting new features and adrenaline-fuelled moments for the partecipants, ready to experience four days of sporting challenge, passion and lifestyle tourism.

The 2026 edition comes with several exciting new features, starting with a completely redesigned route: over 1,100 kilometres of timed and average-speed trials, crossing some of the most captivating landscapes of Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, Marche, Umbria and the Republic of San Marino.

Making the route even more spectacular will be three prestigious international race circuits – Mugello, Imola and Magione – together with three evocative urban circuits, set up in the historic centres of Carpi, Forlì and Lugo di Romagna.

The participants will take part in a challenge featuring timed and average-speed trials along some of Italy’s most scenic roads, creating an exclusive and elegant event for drivers and enthusiasts alike, in honour of the legend who made history in world motorsport, Tazio Nuvolari.

The origins of the Gran Premio Nuvolari date back to 1954, when, at the initiative of the Mille Miglia organisers, an event dedicated to the great Mantuan champion was established following his death on 11 August 1953. As a tribute to him, the Mille Miglia route was modified to pass through Mantua, giving rise to a competition designed to honour the fastest driver along the long straights of the Po Valley, from Cremona to Brescia.

The 36th modern revival, created and organised by Mantova Corse since 1991, will be held in compliance with the regulations of the F.I.A., F.I.V.A. and A.C.I. Sport. The participation of long-standing partners Red Bull and Gruppo Finservice has also been confirmed, Morbio Costruzioni, Mosso Time Keeper and Cognizant. Thanks to their support, the Gran Premio Nuvolari will offer participants an adrenaline-fuelled and unforgettable experience, combining the pleasure of driving through places of outstanding beauty with sporting competition of the highest level.

Among others, the 36th Gran Premio Nuvolari will be held under the patronage of the Lombardy Regional Government, the cities of Mantua, Rimini, Arezzo, Forlì and Ferrara, the Ministries of Tourism and Sport of the Republic of San Marino, and the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Carpi.

The 2026 Route
Thursday, September 17th
The crews will gather in Mantua for the technical and sporting scrutineering, set against the evocative backdrop of Palazzo Te. The day will conclude with the traditional welcome dinner in Piazza Erbe, in the heart of the historic city centre.

Friday, September 18th
The Gran Premio will get underway from Piazza Sordello. The first leg will cross the Po Valley and the Apennines, passing through Carpi and the Mugello and Imola race circuits, before reaching Cesenatico and concluding in Rimini, where the crews will stay overnight.

Saturday, September 19th
From Rimini, the crews will head towards the Marche, Umbria and Tuscany regions, passing through Sant'Angelo in Vado, Città di Castello, the Magione race circuit, Cortona and Arezzo. The return route will take them through Sansepolcro, over the Viamaggio Pass and through the Republic of San Marino, before arriving in Rimini, where the traditional Gala Dinner dedicated to Tazio Nuvolari will be held.

Sunday, September 20th
The final leg will take the competitors north, featuring the decisive timed trials in Meldola, the urban circuits of Forlì and Lugo di Romagna, and the Power Stage in Piazza Ariostea in Ferrara. After lunch at the Abbey of San Benedetto Po, the crews will return to Mantua for the triumphant final arrival in Piazza Sordello.

Gran Premio Nuvolari Green
The organisers of the Gran Premio Nuvolari have always demonstrated a strong commitment to environmental sustainability, pursuing for several years initiatives aimed at protecting people and the environment. The first “Gran Premio Nuvolari Green” initiative was launched in 2020 and involved planting trees to offset the amount of CO2 emissions generated by the circulation of historic cars. A further initiative is also planned to reduce the use of plastic bottles: each crew, all members of the organising staff and media representatives will be provided with eco-friendly Tritan reusable water bottles. During the stage starts in Mantua and Rimini, drinking water dispensers will be available for use by all participants.

Eligibility and Entry Requirements
The Gran Premio Nuvolari is open to historic cars manufactured between 1919 and 1946 in the “PreWar” division, between 1947 and 1976 in the “Classic” division, and between 1977 and 2000 in the “Youngtimer” division, as well as 35 modern GT supercars in the “Gran Turismo” division, manufactured between 2001 and 2026.
