“Nuvolari” Coefficients

In 2000, Mantova Corse devised a method to reward competitors’ performances based on the age of the cars. Today, this simple system, renamed the “Nuvolari Coefficient,” is universally adopted in the world of historic motorsport by organizers and sporting federations.
The application of the “Nuvolari Coefficient” is provided for the conversion of penalties incurred during the event by each competitor. This is assigned by applying the following formula: (1 + car’s year of manufacture / 100).
The final total of all penalties incurred by each crew is then multiplied by the coefficient assigned to the car.
Examples
1.st Example
The year of construction of the car:
1919

Car coefficient:
(1+19/100)
1.19
Hypothetical penalties obtained by the competitor:
500pt
Final score:
(500x1.19)
595pt
2.nd Example
The year of construction of the car:
1981

Car coefficient:
(1+81/100)
1.81
Hypothetical penalties obtained by the competitor:
