The organization of the international event which celebrates the great pilot from Mantova gets underway

Mantova, xx June 2023 - The organization of the 33rd edition of the Gran Premio Nuvolari continues unceasing, the international regularity event reserved for historic cars which since 1991 has celebrated the legendary Tazio Nuvolari, known throughout the world as the greatest driver ever. This is an unmissable and unique appointment, which will make all classic car lovers from the five continents experience great emotions on four wheels to give honour to the "Mantovano Volante".

Through a route that winds through the most picturesque landscapes of Northern and Central Italy, the Gran Premio Nuvolari will be held from 14 to 17 September along a 1,100 km route divided into 3 stages. 300 crews from all over the world will compete every day by facing regularity tests passing through Lombardy, Emilia Romagna, Marche, Tuscany and Umbria - which last year was not included in the route - touching some of the most spectacular squares in Italy, such as Mantova, Modena, Arezzo, Siena, Ravenna, Ferrara, as well as the Republic of San Marino.

The Gran Premio Nuvolari is proposed as one of the most awaited events of the season, offering a spectacular experience with the aim of promoting a new concept of lifestyle tourism linked to the world of engines and collectings, combining healthy sporting competition with the pleasure of discovery of fascinating and unique places. For each stage, excellent hotels and structures have been selected by Mantova Corse to offer to the crews the pleasure of experiencing four unforgettable days.

Throughout the journey, marvels on four wheels that stand witness to the industrial culture of the 20th century will celebrate the great Tazio, showcasing some of the most iconic masterpieces of automotive engineering worldwide.

The event can count on the partnership with internationally renowned companies such as Red Bull and Banca Generali, on the one with Finservice Group, to which this year is added the collaboration with the auction house Wannenes (official partner), Locman-Italy (Time keeper and Official Partner) and Penske Cars (automotive partner).

Organized by Mantova Corse, the event will take place in compliance with the F.I.A, F.I.V.A., A.C.I. Sport, and A.S.I. with particular attention to the safety protocols launched by national and international sports federations.

As part of an ever-increasing attention to the environment, the "Gran Premio Nuvolari Green" initiative continues for the fourth consecutive year, which provides for the compensation of emissions caused by the circulation of cars participating in the initiative, with planting in selected areas of such a number of tall trees as to balance the total amount of CO2 emitted.

Appointment for all enthusiasts in Piazza Sordello in Mantova at 10:30 on Friday 15 September, for the start of the 2023 Gran Premio Nuvolari.

The route 2023

This year, for the first time, the pre-race sporting checks on Thursday 14 September will be held at the Palazzo della Ragione in Piazza delle Erbe and the technical ones in Piazza Sordello. This will be followed by the nocturnal prologue through the streets of Mantova, along a route of about 10 km. It will be the City's greeting for participants from all over the world.

On Friday 15th of September the 300 cars will leave, as per tradition, from the heart of the city of Tazio, from the historical Piazza Sordello. They will cross the roads of the Pianura Padana, up to the Modena racetrack, then the lunch breaks at the ancient Acetaia Leonardi. We will then continue on the Emilia-Romagna hills towards the Adriatic Sea with the arrival in Cesenatico. The first stage will end at the suggestive location of the Grand Hotel da Vinci. An overnight stay in Rimini will follow. The route of this first stage will be subject to possible variations due to the natural disaster that hit these territories hard last spring.

Saturday 16th of September, the second stage. A new route from Rimini to the Marche, Umbria and Tuscany. Before the break in Borgo Scopeto, the passages from Piazza Duomo in Arezzo and from Piazza del Campo in Siena are foreseen, among the iconic cypresses of the Sienese hills. In the afternoon the crews will travel the roads of Chianti, then the trials of Pieve Santo Stefano, towards the Viamaggio pass. The Republic of San Marino will welcome the event with the last group of timed trials of the day and the stamp control in Piazza della Libertà, at the top of Monte
Titano. The arrival of the second stage will be in Rimini, on the walkway of Piazza Tre Martiri. The day will end with the traditional Gala Dinner in honour of Tazio Nuvolari, in the marvellous Fellinian setting of the Grand Hotel in Rimini.

Sunday 17th of September the crews will return to Mantova. The route will reserve them the last challenges, decisive for decreeing the final winner. Starting from Rimini, they will compete with the dreaded time trials of Meldola, then passing through Faenza, guests of the Scuderia di Formula 1 Alpha Tauri and on the track at Imola, inside the celebrated Formula 1 racetrack Enzo and Dino Ferrari. The arena in Piazza Ariostea will be the splendid glance that Ferrara will reserve for the competitors. It will then be the turn to come back to Mantova, through the stamp controls at Bondeno, Poggio Rusco and Revere. Finally, the arrival in Mantova, after 1,100 km, within the walls of Piazza Sordello.

Registration requirements and terms

Registration requests, to be made exclusively on the website www.gpnuvolari.it, can be sent until 31st of July 2023. At the Gran Premio Nuvolari, cars manufactured between 1919 and 1976 with a F.I.V.A. passport, or F.I.A. Heritage, or A.S.I. homologation, or ACI Sport / ACI Storico fiche, or certificate of registration in the A.A.V.S. historical register are admitted. The race is valid for the Campionato Italiano Grandi Eventi di Regolarità Storica.

Furthermore, this year there will be an appendix reserved for 35 modern GT cars produced from 1991 to 2023, with validity extended to the the Campionato Italiano Grandi Eventi di Regolarità Moderna.
