Mantua, 17th July 2023 - There are only 15 days left until the deadline for the registrations for the Gran Premio Nuvolari, the international regularity event for historic cars which has been celebrating for 33 years the "Great Nivola", the most famous driver of all time. 

The engines are warming up for the most awaited event of the year by classic car enthusiasts and motorsport  lovers, which will make participants live unforgettable emotions paying homage to the legendary Tazio  Nuvolari, the iconic protagonist of world motoring. In the DNA of the event, always three components:  historical celebration, sporting competition and glamorous tourism.

From 14th to 17th September, 300 crews from all over the world will cover 1,100 km crossing the most beautiful  and picturesque landscapes of Northern and Central Italy, passing through Lombardy, Emilia Romagna, Marche,  Tuscany and Umbria

This 33rd edition sees the confirmed partners Red Bull, Banca Generali, Finservice Group in addition to the  collaboration with the auction house Wannenes (official partner), Locman-Italy (Time keeper and Official  Partner) and Penske Cars (automotive partner).

The event, organized by Mantova Corse, will take place in compliance with the F.I.A, F.I.V.A., A.C.I. Sport and  A.S.I. Regulations, with particular attention to the safety protocols promoted by national and international  sports federations.

As part of an increasing attention to the environment, the "Gran Premio Nuvolari Green" initiative continues  for the fourth consecutive year, providing for a compensation of the CO2 emissions caused by the circulation  of vintage cars, with the planting of new trees in selected areas of the town.

The 2023 route

This year, for the first time, the sporting checks of Thursday 14th September will be held at Palazzo della Ragione in Piazza delle Erbe, while the technical checks will take place in Piazza Sordello. Afterwards, an evening prologue will take place through the streets of Mantua, along a route of about 10 km. It will be the greeting of  the Town of Mantua to the participants from all over the world. 

On Friday 15th September, the 300 participating cars will leave for the first stage of the event from the historic  Piazza Sordello, in the heart of Tazio Nuvolari's birthplace. They will cross the roads of the Po Valley, until the  arrival at the Modena Racetrack; then, the lunch break will be held at the ancient Acetaia Leonardi. The event will then continue on the Emilia-Romagna hills towards the Adriatic Sea, with the arrival in Cesenatico. The  first stage will end at the suggestive location of the Grand Hotel da Vinci. The overnight stay will be in Rimini. 

The route of this first stage will be subject to possible variations due to the natural disaster that hit these  territories hard last spring.

On Saturday 16th September, the second stage. A new route will take the competitors from Rimini to Marche, Umbria and Tuscany. Before the lunch break at Borgo Scopeto, the passages from Piazza Duomo in Arezzo and  from Piazza del Campo in Siena are foreseen, among the iconic cypresses of the Sienese hills. In the afternoon, the crews will travel the Chianti roads, then they will face the tests of Pieve Santo Stefano, towards the  Viamaggio pass. The Republic of San Marino will welcome the event with the last set of timed trials of the day,  and the stamp control in Piazza della Libertà, at the top of Monte Titano. The arrival of the second stage is  expected in Rimini, parading up to Piazza Tre Martiri. The day will end with the traditional Gala Dinner in honor  of Tazio Nuvolari, in the marvelous Fellinian setting of the Grand Hotel of Rimini.

On Sunday 17th September the crews will head back to Mantua. The route will reserve them the last challenges,  decisive for decreeing the final winner. Starting from Rimini, the gentlemen drivers will test themselves in the  dreaded time trials of Meldola, then they’ll pass through Faenza, as guests of the Alpha Tauri Formula 1 Team,  and through Imola, inside the famous Enzo and Dino Ferrari Formula 1 Racetrack. A very crowded Piazza  Ariostea will be the splendid reward that Ferrara will reserve for the competitors. Finally: the return to Mantua,  only after the last stamp checks in Bondeno, Poggio Rusco and Revere. Piazza Sordello will applaud the return  of the competitors, after 1,100 km. 

Registration requirements and terms

Registration requests have to be made exclusively on the website www.gpnuvolari.it, and they can be sent until the 31st of July 2023. The Gran Premio Nuvolari is open to cars manufactured between 1919 and 1976, equipped with a  F.I.V.A. or F.I.A Heritage Passport, or a A.S.I. Homologation, or a ACI Sport / ACI Storico Fiche, or a Certificate of  Registration in the A.A.V.S. Historical Register. The event is valid for the “Campionato Italiano Grandi Eventi di  Regolarità Storica”.

Furthermore, this year there will be an appendix reserved for 35 modern GT cars produced from 1991 to 2023, with  validity extended to the the “Campionato Italiano Grandi Eventi di Regolarità Moderna”.
