Press release n° 11 - LORENZO AND MARIO TURELLI ARE THE WINNERS!

Today ended the 31st edition of the Gran Premio Nuvolari, with the victory of the of the crew n. 63 of Lorenzo and Mario Turelli - Brescia Corse, driving a FIAT 508 S Sport Coppa d'Oro of 1934. The father and son duo distinguished themselves right from the first stages, showing great skill and technical competence, in a very hard-fought race alongside the best Italian and foreign drivers of regularity. This is their first success at the Gran Premio Nuvolari, during this 31st edition that marked a strong restart for public and participants.

"Winning the Gran Premio Nuvolari is a dream we've had for a long time and getting to the finish line with an Italian car is a great emotion for us - declares Lorenzo Turelli. It is a unique and special race; they have been 3 beautiful days of great focus, in which we managed to make as few mistakes as possible. Our strategy - adds his father Mario - was to sharpen our weapons to attack the most pressing top drivers till the last moment".
"The passion for classic cars is a family tradition in the Turelli household, which in our case has been handed down from son to father and has been sealed today by this important victory! - ends Lorenzo". 

Second place was occupied by crew n.99 of Moceri and Pizzuto, at the wheel of a FIAT 508 C of 1939, in the most exciting head to head of the race.

Third place went to crew no.2 aboard a 1937 FIAT 508 C of the duo Passanante and Moretti - Scuderia Franciacorta Motori, very experienced drivers and already winners of the 2019 edition of the Gran Premio Nuvolari. 

In fourth place the couple Bellini and Tiberti (no.85), on a FIAT 508 C of 1937 and fifth classified Belometti and Vavassori - Brescia Corse, crew no. 33 on a Lancia Lambda Spider Casaro of 1929 and author of an important comeback in the final. 

This 31st edition has proven to stand as an important signal of return to conviviality and sociability, the event as recorded a significant number of participants, , as a proof of the strong enthusiasm that surrounds what is considered one of the most beautiful races in the world and which represents a unique opportunity to get a close look at these iconic vintage cars that have made the history of world motoring. The myth of the “Great Tazio” is always strong and present, thanks to the numerous fans who revive it year after year on occasion of the Gran Premio Nuvolari: tons of emotions are shared along an extraordinary journey on board of real masterpieces of history, mechanics and design.

Many countries from all continents (Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Holland, United States, Great Britain, Russia, Austria, Belgium, Uruguay, Argentina, Japan, Poland, Lebanon, Monte Carlo, San Marino) and 48 car manufacturers have been represented – to mention some: the Italian Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Lancia, Ferrari and Fiat; the British Jaguar, Aston Martin, Bentley and Triumph; the German Mercedes, BMW and Porsche; the French Bugatti. Furthermore, 93 pre-war cars took part to the event.

Another news is worth mentioning: also this year Mantova Corse is committed to the “GPN Green” initiative. As a demonstration of sensitivity to environmental protection and sustainability, at the end of the event tall trees will be planted in selected areas of Mantua in order to compensate the 
environmental impact in terms of CO2 emissions that the circulation of historic cars cause.

The Gran Premio Nuvolari is traditionally organized with the contribution of prestigious sponsors: the “Main Partner” Red Bull, Austrian world leader in the field of energy drinks, that also this year made it possible to relive the myth of Tazio Nuvolari, the “Official Timekeeper Partner” TAG Heuer, famous Franco-Swiss watchmaking house since 1860, and the “Technical Partner” Group Finservice, important Italian company in the subsidized finance sector.

Organized by the Scuderia Mantova Corse, that in 2021 celebrates 40 years of passionate and tireless activity, the regularity event is reserved for vintage cars of historical interest built until 1976, in accordance with the F.I.A, F.I.V.A., ACI Sport and ACI Storico regulations.
The event in honor of the "Great Tazio" will enjoy the patronages of the Lombardy Region, the Province of Mantua, the Municipalities of Mantua, Cesenatico, Rimini, Urbino, Arezzo, Cortona, Ferrara, San Benedetto Po and the Republic of San Marino.

The details of the 31st edition

Participants: 267 confirmed crews, from all over the world.
Admitted cars: all cars manufactured until 1976.
Route: this thirty-first edition proposed a route of about 1,100 km among the central-northern Italian beauties, crossing the suggestive landscapes of Lombardy, Emilia Romagna, Marche, Umbria and Tuscany.
Special Crews: Tazio Nuvolari's legendary car symbolically took part in the event with the number 1 aboard the 1930 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Gran Sport, the glorious car with which the “Flying Mantuan” won the Mille Miglia 91 years ago.

The event in honor of Nuvolari is the third appointment of the Italian “Grandi Eventi” Championship by ACI Sport, which also includes the Coppa Milano Sanremo, the Coppa d'Oro delle Dolomiti and the Targa Florio Classica.
