The expectation is growing around the event that will celebrate the 130th anniversary of the birth of the “Flying Mantuan”

09/01/2022

Mantua, 1st September 2022 – There are just a few weeks left to the 32nd edition of the Gran Premio Nuvolari, the  most technical international regularity event for historic cars in Italy, which every year sees classic enthusiasts from all over the world arrive in Mantua to honor the legend of the driver who most than anyone else has marked the  history of motorsport in the twentieth century, the "Great Tazio".

With 15 days to go, the excitement of participants, fans and public in general is growing around what will be a special  edition full of news. This year, in fact, the 130th anniversary of the birth of Tazio Nuvolari is celebrated, an important  anniversary that will be commemorated thanks to the organizational effort of Mantova Corse, aimed at reviving with  renewed enthusiasm the legend of the great champion.

From 15th to 18th September 315 crews from all over the world and selected by a special commission – to testify the  international relevance of the event – will travel 1,100 km with the "fireballs of yesterday", crossing suggestive  landscapes of Lombardy, Emilia Romagna, Tuscany, Marche and Veneto and enjoying the timeless charm of the  beauties of central-northern Italy, in the context of one of the most beautiful and exciting races in the world.

The Gran Premio Nuvolari 2022 sees the following partners confirmed: Red Bull, Tag Heuer and Finservice. Banca Generali also returns to support the event. Thanks to them, the Nuvolari will maintain its fundamental characteristics  unaltered: sports competition, historical celebration and itinerant tourism.

With a particular sensitivity to environmental protection, the "Gran Premio Nuvolari Green" initiative, an important  ecological action carried out with the Municipality of Mantua, will be proposed again this year. The environmental  impact (CO2 emissions) caused by the circulation of the historic cars will be partially offset by the planting of tall trees  in selected areas of the town.

Gran Premio Nuvolari 2022: the program

The route of the Gran Premio Nuvolari 2022 represents the synthesis of the Italian territorial beauties. It begins  with a novelty: on Thursday 15th September, after the pre-race checks, the “Premio Mantova 2022 - Nuvolari 130  Years” will take place, a night prologue of 7.5 km through the streets of the historic center of Mantua. It will be the  greeting of the town reserved for the participants coming from the five continents.

On Friday 16th September, the first stage. The historic cars will start from Piazza Sordello, in the heart of Mantua,  and will cross the suggestive streets of Emilia Romagna, up to the Autodromo di Modena: here there will be the lunch break and timed tests. The cars will then continue on the Apennines up to Imola, arriving at the famous Enzo  and Dino Ferrari Formula 1 racetrack. Finally, the cars will pass from the Romagna hills towards the Adriatic Sea,  arriving in Cesenatico. The beautiful location of the Grand Hotel da Vinci will be the suggestive setting for the dinner.

On Saturday 17th September, the second stage. The route will be totally renewed: the competitors will travel from  Rimini to Florence, passing through the Mandrioli Pass, Stia, the Consuma Pass, and the Chianti Senese – having  lunch among the cypresses and the hills of Borgo Scopeto. In the afternoon the crews will travel the streets of  Arezzo, facing the stamp checks of Montevarchi and Pieve Santo Stefano, proceeding towards the Viamaggio pass  and arriving in San Marino, for the last set of timed tests and the stamp control in Piazza della Libertà – in front of  the Government Palace of the oldest Republic in the world.

The quaint Piazza Ariostea in Ferrara will be another  crowd bath for the competing crews. The stamp checks of Bondeno, Poggio Rusco and Revere will open the actual  return to Mantua.
