The first day of the 34th edition of the Gran Premio Nuvolari, Italy's most technical international regularity event for historic cars, which until tomorrow, September 22, brings together the elite of classic enthusiasts along with cars of timeless charm among the evocative landscapes of central-northern Italy to celebrate the legendary Tazio Nuvolari, who more than any other has marked the history of 20th-century motoring, ended last night in Modena.

Yesterday, after the start in the iconic setting of Piazza Sordello, the roads of Monte Baldo flanking Lake Garda, the passage to Riva del Garda, the Lessini Mountains and Verona, and time trials on the Po di Revere embankment, the crews arrived in Piazza Grande in Modena.

Today, the 300 gentlemen drivers are engaged in the second leg of the route, ready to consolidate their achievements. The event, now in its second day of competition, gets into full swing, seeing the Gran Premio Nuvolari restart from Novi Sad Park in Modena, heading to Tuscany, Marche and Romagna. Stamp controls are scheduled in the historic center of Pistoia, Piazza del Campo in Siena, and Piazza Grande in Arezzo. In the afternoon, crews will head to the Pieve Santo Stefano trials and the Viamaggio Pass. The arrival of the second stage will be in Rimini, in Piazza Tre Martiri. The day will end with the traditional gala dinner in honor of Tazio Nuvolari, in the wonderful Fellini-esque setting of Rimini's Grand Hotel.

The preliminary ranking at 9 a.m. this morning sees in the lead: Fontanella - Covelli (No. 9), driving a 1927 Lancia Lambda Spyder. In second place follows the Turelli - Turelli pair (No. 24) aboard a 1929 OM 665 Smm Superba; third place goes to the No. 51 crew of Vesco - Vesco, with a 1935 FIAT 508 S.

Tomorrow, Sunday, September 22, is the third and final stage for the crews who will return to Mantua. The route will reserve them the last challenges, the decisive ones to decree the winner. Starting from Rimini, they will face the dreaded time trials in Meldola, then moving on to Faenza, guests of the renovated Formula 1 Scuderia “Racing Bulls”. A new feature this year: time trials will be held in the historic center of Lugo di Romagna. The Estense Castle will be the venue for the lunch break that the city of Ferrara will reserve for the competitors. Then it will be the turn of the return to the Mantuan land, through the Poggio Rusco and Ostiglia stamp controls. At the end, the triumphant arrival in Mantua, within the hospitable walls of Piazza Sordello, after 1,100 km among the beauties of Italy.

This edition sees the confirmed presence of partners Red Bull, Finservice Group, Locman, Penske Cars and Wannenes, along with new entry Closebax SD Shampoo, thanks to which the “Nuvolari” reaffirms some of its fundamental characteristics: the spirit of sporting competition, historical celebration and touring.

Gran Premio Nuvolari Green
The organization of the Gran Premio Nuvolari has always been sensitive to environmental sustainability, embarking for years on a path aimed at safeguarding people and the territory. The first “Gran Premio Nuvolari Green” initiative was developed in 2020 and included the planting of trees to offset the amount of CO2 emitted by the circulation of historic cars. Starting this year, an additional activity is planned to limit the use of plastic bottles: ecological tritan water bottles will be distributed to each crew, all organizational staff and the media. During the stage starts in Mantua, Modena and Rimini, drinking water dispensers will be placed for use by all participants.
