16th September 2023

The first day of the 33rd edition of the Gran Premio Nuvolari, Italy's most technical international regularity event for historic cars, which until tomorrow, September 17, brings together the elite of classic enthusiasts along with cars of timeless charm among the evocative landscapes of central-northern Italy to celebrate the legendary Tazio Nuvolari, who more than any other has marked the history of 20th-century motor racing, ended last night in Cesenatico.
The event, now in its second and most intense day of competition, enters full action. In fact, after the "Premio Mantova 2023," a 7.5-kilometer night prologue that on the evening of Thursday, September 14, animated the streets of Mantua's historic center and a first day full of excitement, from the ritual start in the iconic square of Piazza Sordello, through the time trials at the Autodromo di Modena, a cult of motorsport, to the beautiful scenery of the Emilia-Romagna hills, today the 275 crews are engaged in the second stage of the route, ready to consolidate the results obtained and to face the challenges of the day.
The gentlemen drivers are heading for Central Italy, driving a new track and challenging each other curve after curve: from Rimini to Marche, Umbria and Tuscany, passing through Arezzo's Piazza del Duomo, Siena's Piazza del Campo to the Borgo Scopeto break.
The provisional ranking at 9:45 a.m. today sees in the lead: Turelli - Turelli (No. 59), driving a 1934 Fiat 508 S Sport Coppa Oro. In second place follows the Patron - Patron pair (No. 55) aboard a 1933 MG L Magna, third placed crew No. 64 of Vesco - Vesco with a 1935 Fiat 508 S.
In the afternoon, the crews will travel the roads of Chianti with trials in Pieve Santo Stefano, towards the Viamaggio Pass.
The Republic of San Marino will welcome GP Nuvolari with the last group of time trials of the day and the stamp control in Piazza della Libertà, in front of the Government Palace of the oldest Republic in the world. It will then return to Rimini, on the promenade of Piazza Tre Martiri, followed by the traditional Gala Dinner in honor of Tazio Nuvolari that will close the evening, within the marvelous Fellini-like setting of Rimini's Grand Hotel.
On Sunday, September 17, the third and final stage for the crews will return to Mantua. The route will reserve them the last challenges, the decisive ones to decree the winner. Starting from Rimini, they will face the dreaded time trials in Meldola, then in Faenza, guests of the Formula 1 Scuderia Alpha Tauri, to arrive on the track in Imola, inside the famous Formula 1 Enzo and Dino Ferrari racetrack. The arena in Piazza Ariostea will be the sight that Ferrara will reserve for the competitors. Then it will be the turn of the return to Mantuan land, through the stamp controls of Conselice, Argenta, Poggio Rusco and Revere. Finally, the arrival in Mantua, after 4 days and 1,130 km of racing, and the prize-giving ceremony within the walls of Piazza Sordello.
This 33rd edition features the confirmed partners Red Bull, Banca Generali, Finservice Group, to which are added the collaborations with the auction house Wannenes (official partner), Locman-Italy (Time keeper and Official Partner) and Penske Cars (Automotive partner), thanks to which the "Nuvolari" reaffirms some of its fundamental characteristics: the spirit of sporting competition, historical celebration and itinerant tourism.
With sensitivity towards environmental protection, the "Gran Premio Nuvolari Green" initiative will be proposed again this year, an important ecological action carried out with the patronage of the Municipality of Mantua: the environmental impact caused by the circulation of historic cars - in terms of CO2 emissions - will be compensated by planting tall trees in selected areas of the town.
Organized by Mantova Corse, the event will take place in compliance with F.I.A, F.I.V.A., A.S.I. and A.C.I. Sport regulations, with particular attention to the safety protocols launched by national and international sports.
